Rumman Chowdhury of Bangladeshi origin placed at 41st position in the list of 100 influential people in AI
Rumman Chowdhury of Bangladeshi origin has been included in the list of top 100 influential people in the world of artificial intelligence (AI). Rumman is ranked 41 out of 100 people. On Thursday (September 7), the famous US magazine Time published the list. Rumman, 43, is a data and social scientist by profession. But she has a special preoccupation with algorithmic ethics.
She was given this honor for her significant contribution to AI.
"For the past six years I have been developing cutting-edge socio-technical solutions for ethical, explainable and transparent AI," Rumman writes in her LinkedIn bio.
Dr. Rumman is the co-founder of Human Intelligence. Currently, she is serving as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company. Previously, ML was Director of the Ethics, Transparency, and Accountability team at social media platform X (Twitter).
Dr. Rumman was born in Rockland County, New York in 1980. From childhood, she was a big fan of science fiction and the TV series X-Files, which made her curious about science.
She graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Management Science and Political Science. She then received an MSc in Statistics and Quantitative Methods from Columbia University. In addition to working in Silicon Valley, she earned a PhD in Political Science from the University of California, San Diego.
She has researched how to use data to free people from bias and how to examine the impact of technology on society.
From February 2021 to November 2022, she worked at Twitter (now X) as an engineering director for a team at Twitter. During this time, she worked to reconcile ethical standards with Twitter's artificial intelligence.
At the beginning of August this year, Dr. Rumman organized a groundbreaking conference in Las Vegas with about 4,000 hackers. The event challenged hackers to identify various vulnerabilities in AI chatbots made by Open AI, Google and Anthropic.
Through this program the importance of Dr. Rumman's work came to the fore in a big way.
Along with Dr. Rumman, the CEO of Open AI Sam Altman, Elon Musk of X AI, Emeritus Professor of Canadian University Jeffrey Hinton, Stanford University Professor Fei Fei Li, Google Deep Mind Vice President Pushmeet Kohli and others are placed in this list of Time magazine.
